British and American keyboards do not have the accented characters (diacritics) that are commonly used in other Western European languages such as French, Spanish and Italian. While it is possible to enter these characters by pressing combinations of Alt with the numeric keyboard, that method is slow and cumbersome and you need to remember the numeric codes for each character.

With the Avisoft Accentype2 toolbar you simply click the relevant character on the toolbar and it is automatically inserted into your document! Fast and easy – all it takes is one mouse click! Language

The toolbar displays accented characters (diacritics) relevant to your chosen language. If you are writing a multi-language document switching between languages is quick and easy.

The following languages are currently supported: French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish In addition there is also a custom toolbar where you choose what accented characters and symbols you want to appear on the toolbar!

Shareware:

Avisoft Accentype2 is shareware. It does not contain any trojans, add-ware, spy-ware, viruses or any other malware. No other software is bundled with it. All the features are fully functional and it does not have a built in expiry date.

Accentype2 can be used free of charge for personal use and does not need to be registered. However, if you find the software useful or want to use it within a business or other organisation you should consider registering it and paying a small shareware fee. History

My name is David Townsend and I am the developer of Avisoft Accentype2. Originally I wrote a simple toolbar for my own use to type French characters. That toolbar evolved and became freeware and very popular with both students of the French language and expats living in France. Accentype2 is the successor to that toolbar and has many more features and supports more languages. It has been designed specifically for use on Microsoft Vista but it also works on Microsoft XP provided the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 has been installed. (Vista comes with the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 pre-installed. XP users can download it free of charge from the Microsoft website.)

Toolbar Layout:

Some accented characters / diacritics are used a lot more than others. Words from one language are also absorbed into other languages, sometimes retaining their original spellings and none-native accented characters. Thus some toolbars are provided in two versions, common and all. The typical user will only need the common version, but the full toolbar is provided for completeness.

The toolbar automatically changes its layout to display the characters relevant to each language you select:

Auto Hide:

For a really minimal toolbar, setting auto hide will cause the toolbar to shrink when not in use. This means the toolbar can fit nicely above the buttons of Microsoft Word or many other applications and not get in the way!  Moving the mouse pointer back over the toolbar makes it return to full size.

Avisoft Accentype2 comes complete with comprehensive help documentation, but you will likely never need to refer to it! The software is very simple to use.

HTML Support

Avisoft Accentype2 has an advanced feature to insert the ASCII entity of accented characters into an html document. This feature is useful for web site developers.

Windows XP:

Avisoft Accentype2 is designed for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However it will also run on Windows XP provided it has Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 installed. This is free to download from the Microsoft web site: Click here to download Microsoft Network Framework 3.5

However, if you only have a dial-up internet connection the download may take a long while to download. (It is approximately 231 MB). You may prefer to purchase the Avisoft Accentype2 CD which includes the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 installation on it.

Release Notes and Upgrade Information:

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Accentype2, you need to uninstall the old version prior to installing a more recent version. Use the add / remove programs facility within the Windows control panel to remove the old version. Note that any existing licence or settings will not be lost during the uninstall / upgrade process.
