Avisoft AviDoc is document editor with an integral toolbar containing the accented characters of your chosen language. Simply click the relevant character on the toolbar and it is automatically inserted into your document! Fast and easy – all it takes is one mouse click!

The function keys F1 through to F12 can also be used to type the characters of the selected language toolbar. So you have two convenient ways of entering accented characters! To help familiarise you with which function key corresponds to which character; there is an option to print a little strip with the captions of the characters on. You can place this on your keyboard above the function keys.

Comprehensive help documentation is supplied; but you may never need to look at it to use this software; it is very intuitive and you can start using it immediately. The software is ideal for use in an educational establishment or for business or personal use.

Document Compatibility

AviDoc uses the Microsoft rich text format (RTF) standard for creating and editing documents. This means documents created and edited with AviDoc are portable and can be opened and edited by anyone who has any version of Microsoft Word. The RTF standard is also supported by various other none-Microsoft word processing or document editors including OpenOffice.

RTF documents can also be opened using WordPad which comes included with Microsoft Windows (all versions), but AviDoc has many more features for editing such documents.

Language

The toolbar displays accented characters relevant to your chosen language. If you are writing a multi-language document switching between languages is quick and easy.

The following languages are currently supported: French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish In addition there is also a custom toolbar where you choose what accented characters and symbols you want to appear on the toolbar! Whatever language toolbar you select, including the custom one, the same characters will also be available on the function keys F1 through to F12.

Shareware:

Avisoft AviDoc is shareware. It does not contain any trojans, add-ware, spy-ware, viruses or any other malware. No other software is bundled with it. All the features are fully functional and it does not have a built in expiry date.

Avisoft AviDoc can be used free of charge for personal use and does not need to be registered. However, if you find the software useful or want to use it within a business or other organisation you should consider registering it and paying a small shareware fee. Features:

AviDoc is feature rich. Most options are available on the file and edit drop down menus. The menu is also customizable so you can chose which buttons appear on the top (main) menu bar. More options are available by right clicking the document.

Window Size

The size of the AviDoc window can be changed to a size that suits your needs and your screen size. The size and location of the window are automatically remembered between sessions. On first installation the window is sized to fit an 800 pixel wide screen with the most common menu options on the main menu. However you can move your most commonly used menu options to the main menu bar. If your screen is wide enough you could even move them all there!

History

My name is David Townsend and I am the developer of Avisoft AviDoc. Originally I wrote a simple plain text version of this software for my own use to type French characters. That software evolved and became bundled with another Avisoft software package "French Vocabulary Builder" which is very popular with students of the French language. AviDoc is the successor to that document editor and has many more features and supports more languages. It has been designed specifically for use on Microsoft Vista but it also works on Microsoft XP provided the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 has been installed. (Vista comes with the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 pre-installed. XP users can download it free of charge from the Microsoft website.)

Accented character toolbar Layout:

Some accented characters are used a lot more than others. Words from one language are also absorbed into other languages, sometimes retaining their original spellings and none-native accented characters. Thus some languages are provided in two versions, common and all. The typical user will only need the common version, but the full version is provided for completeness.

The integral toolbar automatically changes its layout to display the characters relevant to each language you select:

Memory Function

You can store an unlimited number of words, phrases or whole paragraphs and subsequently insert them into documents with only two mouse clicks. Ideal for text that is used a lot such as names and addresses and formal sign-off comments at the foot of documents.

Help documentation

Avisoft AviDoc comes complete with comprehensive help documentation, but you may not need to refer to it! The software is very simple to use.

HTML Support

Avisoft AviDoc has an advanced feature to copy text and place it onto the clipboard in HTML format which is suitable for pasting into HTML emails. This feature works with computer based email programs such as Outlook Express and Thunderbird and also with web based email forms such as Yahoo. Simple html documents can also be created using AviDoc.

Windows XP:

Avisoft AviDoc is designed for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However it will also run on Windows XP provided it has Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 installed. This is free to download from the Microsoft web site: Click here to download Microsoft Network Framework 3.5

However, if you only have a dial-up internet connection the download may take a long while to download. (It is approximately 231 MB). You may prefer to purchase the Avisoft AviDoc CD which includes the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 installation on it.

Release Notes and Upgrade Information:

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of AviDoc, you need to uninstall the old version prior to installing a more recent version. Use the add / remove programs facility within the Windows control panel to remove the old version. Note that any existing licence or settings will not be lost during the uninstall / upgrade process.
