There are many excellent language study books available, but they all share one drawback; when doing exercises you need to keep manually checking your answers are letter perfect in the back of the book.

Why not type those questions and answers into Avisoft Avilastas and practice them using this software? This is better than doing the exercises using pen and paper because the software automatically checks your answers and points out mistakes while you type; repeating questions you get wrong and helping you to practice until you get the exercises perfect.

Once you have typed the questions and answers into Avilastas (which is good practice for you anyway) you can do the exercises as many times as you want. The software keeps track of your progress with each exercise. The software also has several educational games to play using words it randomly takes from your exercises to help you learn new vocabulary.

Create and save as many exercises as you want, each exercise consisting of as many questions as you want. The questions can simply be individual words in each language to help build your vocabulary or longer phrases or sentences for you to practice translating. For more advanced students, you can use the software to practice the different conjugations of verbs. Create an exercise file for each infinitive; enter a few sentences using each tense of the verb, then test yourself!

How you use Avilastas is up to you. It is very versatile and is useful whatever your level. Avilastas also includes a document editor with an integrated accent-bar so you can easily type accented characters from any language or via the function keys, so your fingers don't even need to leave the keyboard.

The software is simple to use and includes several example exercises in various languages for you to look at and experiment with. If you are a language teacher you can create and share exercise files with your students by email.

Main window:

The software works with all European languages and many African and Asian languages too. The software is primarily intended for English speaking people who are learning a foreign language but it can also be used to practice language exercises via other languages e.g. you could practice Italian through Croatian!

Creating or editing questions:

An accented character bar is shown at the bottom of each window so you can enter any characters not readily available on your keyboard. You can select an accent bar for more than 70 different languages!

Test yourself

If you make a mistake you are immediately notified of the problem and (optionally) shown the correct character to type. For any questions you answer incorrectly you can opt to be tested with the same question again either immediately or after doing the other questions, or both!

Multiple Choice Quiz

Avilastas can present the questions to you in the form of a multiple choice quiz too. This is a good way to learn new vocabulary.

There are also features to export the questions and answers to a text document or as HTML.

Easy to use

Comprehensive help documentation is supplied with the software, but you will probably never need to look at it! The software is very intuitive and you can start using it immediately.

Avisoft Avilastas does not contain any adverts, trojans, adware, spyware, viruses or any other malware. No third-party software is bundled with it. All the features are fully functional and it does not have a built in expiry date.

Avilastas can be downloaded and used immediately free of charge for personal use and does not need to be registered. History

My name is David Townsend. I am the developer of Avisoft Avilastas. As with much of my shareware software it arose from a personal need. When I was learning French I found it irritating continually checking my answers in the back of reference books so wrote this software to help me and to help others.

Windows XP:

Avisoft Avilastas is designed for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However it will also run on Windows XP provided it has Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 installed. This is free to download from the Microsoft web site: Click here to download Microsoft Network Framework 3.5

However, if you only have a dial-up internet connection the download may take a long while to download. (It is approximately 231 MB). You may prefer to purchase the Avisoft Avilastas CD which includes the Microsoft Network Framework 3.5 installation on it.
